The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) has held a virtual preparatory meeting ahead of the commencement of the bi-annual statutory verification of measuring instruments used in the petroleum sub-sector.
The verification exercise, which is conducted twice a year, targets measuring instruments such as bulk flow meters and fuel dispensers, and is aimed at ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal metrology standards in the petroleum industry.
ZMA says the exercise is critical in preventing over-dispensing or under-dispensing of petroleum products, thereby protecting both consumers and businesses while promoting fairness in trade.
Following successful verification, each compliant instrument will be affixed with a ZMA verification sticker indicating its validity period. The sticker serves as official confirmation that the instrument meets the required accuracy standards within the specified timeframe.
The preparatory meeting was chaired by ZMA Director for Legal Metrology, Dr. Eng. Michael Nsefu, and brought together representatives from Oil Marketing Companies, technical service providers, ZMA metrologists, and other key stakeholders in the petroleum sector.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Eng. Nsefu stated that the Agency is fully prepared to commence the verification exercise and urged all stakeholders to fully cooperate to ensure its smooth and successful implementation.
ZMA has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumers and businesses by ensuring accuracy, transparency, and fairness in trade through effective legal metrology services.
