Government has pledged to reward cyclist Mr. James Falanga, popularly known as “One Yeye International,” following his historic 37-day cycling expedition from Lusaka to Cape Town.

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Mr. Kangwa Chileshe announced the development yesterday when he, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana, and Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Joe Kalusa welcomed Mr. Falanga at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Mr. Chileshe described Mr. Falanga as a patriot whose achievement had elevated Zambia’s profile across the African continent.

He said the cyclist’s journey reflected President Hakainde Hichilema’s policy that all sporting disciplines deserve equal recognition and support.

Mr. Chileshe noted that before embarking on the continental expedition, Mr. Falanga had travelled across Zambia by bicycle while attending traditional ceremonies and promoting cultural heritage, domestic tourism, and trade.

He added that the expedition helped raise awareness about Southern Africa’s tourism potential while promoting the free movement of people across borders and advancing the vision of a visa-free Africa.

Meanwhile, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana praised Mr. Falanga for demonstrating determination, discipline, and hard work throughout the journey.

Mr. Kawana said the cyclist drew inspiration from President Hichilema’s resilience during his lengthy political journey before being elected Head of State.

He further encouraged young people across the country to emulate Mr. Falanga’s example of hard work and perseverance, describing him as a role model whose success was achieved through honest effort rather than shortcuts.
