Lusaka — The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) implementation agreement with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), marking a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, ZABS Executive Director Nathan Sing’ambwa said the agreement represents a shift from intention to action, emphasizing that the partnership is now moving into a practical implementation phase.
Mr. Sing’ambwa noted that the collaboration will act as a bridge between Zambia and South Africa by linking industrial sectors, opening supply chains, and enhancing bilateral trade. He explained that standardization plays a critical role in trade facilitation, describing it as the “language of trade” that helps remove technical barriers, build trust, and unlock market access through internationally recognized benchmarks.
Meanwhile, SABS Acting Chief Operating Officer Thabo Sepuru described the partnership as an economic extension between the two countries. He said the agreement will enable both institutions to hold each other accountable in delivering agreed outcomes, ultimately supporting economic growth and regional integration.
The MoU implementation is expected to strengthen quality infrastructure, improve compliance with international standards, and promote smoother trade flows between Zambia and South Africa.
