Lusaka, Zambia – SAT-Zambia has concluded a three-day entrepreneurship boot camp in Lusaka aimed at empowering young women and strengthening the link between sexual and reproductive health and economic preparedness.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, SAT-Zambia Executive Director Lenganji
Nanyangwe emphasized the importance of economic empowerment as a pathway
to independence for young women.
“Zambia needs more women at the forefront of business
innovation. We can’t speak about rights when people are hungry,” Nanyangwe
said.
A total of 22 young
women entrepreneurs were selected to participate in the program, which
sought to help them build meaningful spaces in a gender-equal economy.
Nanyangwe noted that SAT-Zambia’s mission goes beyond
advocating for health and social rights but the organization also focuses on
preparing young women to be economically self-reliant.
The training was hosted by SAT’s YouthWyze Academy in partnership with Anura Consulting, the Government of Sweden, and AUDA-NEPAD.
Anura Consulting Practice Lead
Mehak Gopaldas highlighted that the boot camp helped participants develop
practical business skills, confidence, and resilience.
“The training has helped the young women to be practical,
overcome fear, and maintain a positive attitude as they run their businesses,”
Gopaldas said.
“It also taught them
how to handle rejection and refine how they present their business ideas.”
The initiative is part of SAT-Zambia’s ongoing efforts to
integrate entrepreneurship and health education, promoting a holistic approach
to women’s empowerment in Zambia.
