Zanaco donates 60 desks to Olympia park secondary school

Zanaco Bank has donated 60 desks to Olympia Park Secondary School in Lusaka, marking the second donation under its nationwide desk donation campaign.

The initiative was launched last year in commemoration of Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary and is aimed at improving learning conditions in public schools.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Zanaco Executive Head of Client, Chanda Katongo, said the bank has committed to donating a total of 3,600 desks to schools across all the country’s 10 provinces.

Ms. Katongo explained that the investment in desks is motivated by the bank’s belief that education is a critical cornerstone for national development, adding that a conducive learning environment plays a key role in enhancing learner performance.

She reaffirmed Zanaco’s commitment to supporting government efforts in improving education infrastructure and promoting inclusive access to quality education.

Officiating at the event, Standard Education Officer Anderson Katete welcomed the donation and acknowledged the role of cooperating partners in the education sector.

Mr. Katete noted that government alone cannot adequately provide quality education, emphasizing that partnerships with the private sector are essential in addressing challenges such as inadequate classroom furniture.

He further encouraged more corporate institutions to emulate Zanaco’s gesture in supporting schools.

Meanwhile, receiving the donation, Olympia Park Secondary School Headmistress Kavwumbu Miyanza expressed gratitude to Zanaco Bank, stating that the desks will significantly improve the learning environment.

Mrs. Miyanza said the donation restores dignity to learners by enabling them to sit comfortably and focus better during lessons.

She added that the school will ensure the desks are put to good use for the benefit of pupils.
