GVT Urges Pastors and Chaplains to Attain Relevant Training

Acting Director of Religious Affairs under the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Martha Sitali

The Government has urged pastors and chaplains across the country to pursue relevant and adequate pastoral training in order to effectively contribute to national development.

Acting Director of Religious Affairs under the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Martha Sitali, says the Government is fully aware of the challenges pastors and chaplains face in accessing proper theological and pastoral training.

Dr. Sitali stated that the Zambian Government is strengthening partnerships between the Government and faith-based universities to ensure religious leaders are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

She emphasized that it is prudent for individuals aspiring to chaplainship to undergo formal and relevant training, noting that well-trained religious leaders play a critical role in promoting moral values, peace, and social cohesion.

Dr. Sitali was speaking during the International Collision Fellowship University (ICOF) graduation and ordination ceremony.

Meanwhile, ICOF University Vice Chancellor, Charles Mwape, has commended the Government for including private education institutions in national education policies through the provision of bursaries and scholarships to students.

Mr. Mwape said the move demonstrates the Government’s commitment to collaboration in addressing social challenges, particularly in curbing anti-social behavior among youths.

He further thanked the Government for its massive recruitment drive, noting that some of those employed are graduates of ICOF University.
