UPND Youth Chairman Accuses Copperbelt Police of Undermining President Hichilema

By Staff Reporter

UPND National Youth Chairman Gilbert Liswaniso has accused a group of police officers on the Copperbelt of undermining President Hakainde Hichilema, following reports circulating on social media alleging that ruling party cadres attacked officers at a toll gate.

A video that has gone viral shows a confrontation involving UPND cadres, police officers, and officials from the Road Development Agency (RDA) and the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA). However, Mr. Liswaniso has dismissed the online narrative, insisting that the footage does not reflect the true sequence of events.

According to Mr. Liswaniso, the altercation began when a UPND official briefly left a vehicle to use a restroom. Upon returning, the official was allegedly struck with the back of a firearm by a police officer stationed at the toll gate, triggering the dispute captured in the circulating video.

Mr. Liswaniso said he later engaged the officer responsible, who subsequently apologized to the UPND delegation, allowing the matter to be resolved amicably.

He emphasized that the incident occurred last Thursday, contrary to claims suggesting that it happened more recently.

The Youth Chairman criticized the officers involved, alleging that their conduct undermines the President’s efforts to promote professionalism and respect within law enforcement institutions.
