United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary
General Batuke Imenda has called on residents of the Copperbelt
Province to engage the government through dialogue whenever there are pressing
issues.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Mr. Imenda
described the recent incident in Chingola, where the Republican
President was attacked, as “un-Zambian, retrogressive and
unacceptable.” He urged all peace-loving citizens to condemn such
acts, emphasizing that Zambia’s democracy thrives on mutual respect and
dialogue rather than confrontation.
Mr. Imenda urged Chingola residents, and the nation at
large, to embrace dialogue rather than confrontation when aggrieved.
“The New Dawn Administration is open to constructive
engagement. No issue is too big to be resolved through peaceful conversation,” he
assured.
He appealed especially to the youth to protect the
gains made under President Hichilema and reject violence and division.
He noted that it is regrettable such occurrences are
happening at a time when the government has undertaken significant development
projects on the Copperbelt—projects which, he said, surpass the achievements of
any previous administration since independence in 1964.
The UPND Secretary General further
highlighted President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to
ensuring that mining operations are conducted safely and responsibly,
particularly to protect the lives of young miners.
He pointed to past tragedies, where miners lost their
lives after being buried underground, as lessons that must not be repeated.
Mr. Imenda urged citizens to support the government’s
efforts to promote dialogue and maintain peace, saying it is the only way to
foster sustainable development across the country.
