Lusaka — The Evangelical Youth Alliance, together with more than 90 clergy and church leaders from Lusaka, Kafue and Chongwe, has declared its opposition to the planned peaceful protest organised by the Oasis Forum and several Catholic Church leaders.
Speaking to journalists, Evangelical Youth Alliance Director Reverend Moses Lungu said that while the concerns raised by the Forum are acknowledged, it is “unfair” to place blame for the constitutional amendment process solely on President Hakainde Hichilema.
Reverend Lungu commended President Hichilema for extending an invitation to the Oasis Forum for dialogue on the proposed amendments, adding that this gesture demonstrates the government’s willingness to engage.
He noted that the Oasis Forum had initially taken the matter to court seeking judicial intervention, and questioned what he described as a “sudden U-turn” in opting to hold a protest instead.
Reverend Lungu urged citizens to support the government’s efforts to address national challenges through dialogue and peaceful engagement rather than public demonstrations.
