EU AND SWEDEN PARTNER TO FUND MODERN
COOKING FACILITY FOR AFRICA IN ZAMBIA

The European Union and Sweden have
partnered to fund the modern cooking facility for Africa in Zambia program
aimed at scaling up access to clean and modern cooking solutions in the
country.
Sweden, the Initiator and first donor of
the programme is providing K680 million to support Programme development and
scale up in all project countries.
European Union will contribute K230 million to the Programme
over a period of 5 years to support
market development for clean cooking in Zambia and increase awareness of the
positive impact of the programme.
Speaking during the Launch in Lusaka
today, Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Johan Hallenborg said the MCFA Programme
offers result based financing combined with catalytic grant financing to help
private companies develop and sell clean cooking services and scale up their
businesses in six Sub-saharan African countries.
And European Union Head of Delegation to
COMESA and Zambia Jacek Jankoswki said Zambia can protect the environment by providing
alternatives to harmful cooking practices.
Officiating at the event Ministry of
Finance and National Planning Permanent Secretary Danies Chisenda has commended
the European Union for setting up the program and considering Zambia has one of
the beneficiaries.
