The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) has launched its services on the Government Service Bus through the ZamPortal, a move aimed at improving efficiency, growth, and sustainability in the delivery of its services.
Speaking during the launch and the presentation of the 2025 ZMA Media Awards, ZMA Executive Director Humphrey Nkobeni said the digital integration will eliminate unnecessary paperwork and significantly reduce turnaround times for services offered by the agency.
Mr. Nkobeni explained that the new platform will allow businesses to access key services online without the need to physically visit ZMA offices. He noted that the initiative is more than just an ICT upgrade.
According to him, the development represents a strategic reform aligned with the government’s digital transformation agenda and ZMA’s vision of becoming a modern, efficient, and financially sustainable regulator.
Mr. Nkobeni added that the agency aims to become a modern and responsive regulator capable of protecting consumers while also supporting business growth across the country.
During the awards presentation, Kwithu FM reporter Samuel Mbewe was honored as the Best Radio Reporter for effectively using storytelling to explain complex issues such as measurement accuracy, consumer rights, and market fairness in ways that resonate with listeners.
Meanwhile, Government Chief Technical Officer at Smart Zambia Institute, Kasali Musenge, said the Government Service Bus platform helps reduce excessive physical interactions when accessing public services. He added that the system also promotes transparency, curbs corruption, and reduces long queues at government institutions.
ZMA Board Chairperson Muzumala Jirongo also noted that the online platform will enable citizens, particularly those in rural areas, to access ZMA services without having to travel to Lusaka or other major offices.
