Elvis Nkandu says the launch of the 2026 ABSA Cup reflects a shared national vision of ensuring that no region is left behind and that talent from every province is given a fair opportunity to compete on the national stage.
Speaking during the official launch of the ABSA Cup, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts said the initiative responds to concerns from citizens who feel that national team selections often favor players from the same regions.
Mr. Nkandu emphasized that selection should not be based on partisan considerations or regional affiliation, but strictly on individual performance and merit.
He noted that the expanded platform provided by the 2026 ABSA Cup will help address perceptions that players are consistently drawn from only a few parts of the country.
The Minister added that the tournament offers a valuable opportunity for players across all provinces to showcase their abilities and prove themselves on a competitive stage.
He urged athletes to take full advantage of the opportunity presented, stating that consistent performance and discipline will be key in earning recognition at national level.
