MTN Zambia, Zanaco Launch MoMo Payments on POS and ATM Cash Outs

Lusaka — As Zambia’s payments landscape shifts decisively toward digital platforms, MTN Zambia and Zanaco have launched MTN MoMo payments on Zanaco Point of Sale (POS) machines and enabled cash-out services on Zanaco ATMs.

Speaking during the official launch, Zanaco Acting Chief Executive Officer Kalengo Simukoko described the development as a game changer for Zambia’s financial ecosystem.

Mr. Simukoko said the integration broadens payment acceptance beyond traditional bank cards to include MTN Money, significantly reducing the risks associated with cash handling and easing reconciliation processes for businesses.

“This innovation improves sales conversion by allowing customers to pay with funds already available in their mobile wallets,” he said.

He added that for customers, the move brings greater choice, faster transactions, and enhanced security at the till. Furthermore, he noted that migrating more transactions from cash to traceable digital platforms supports transparency, strengthens tax compliance, and advances Zambia’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Mr. Simukoko also emphasized that the partnership aligns with national development goals, particularly in improving remittance flows and expanding financial access in rural areas.

Meanwhile, MTN Mobile Money Chief Executive Officer Komba Malukutila said the company is evolving alongside global technological changes to better serve customers.

“As the world evolves, we are moving at the pace at which technology is changing, ensuring that we meet our customers at their point of need,” Mr. Malukutila said.

The collaboration marks a significant step in deepening financial inclusion and accelerating Zambia’s transition toward a more digitally driven economy.
