Over One Million Voters Registered in Zambia — ECZ Reports Steady Progress in Ongoing Exercise
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that more than one million voters have been registered across the country as of October 31, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing national voter registration exercise.
According to ECZ Chief Executive Officer Brown Kasaro, the Commission is encouraged by the growing public participation, particularly during the third and fourth phases of the process.
“We are pleased with the progress made so far and the enthusiasm shown by citizens to take part in this important exercise,” Mr. Kasaro said.
Provincial statistics show that Copperbelt Province recorded the highest number of registered voters at 179,956, followed by Eastern Province with 157,780. In contrast, Muchinga Province and North-Western Province recorded the lowest registration numbers, at 67,181 and 93,330 respectively.
Mr. Kasaro, however, clarified that the differences in registration figures should not be interpreted as variations in performance across provinces, but rather as reflections of the different sizes of the eligible voting populations in each region.
The ECZ has reiterated its commitment to ensuring an inclusive, transparent, and efficient voter registration process ahead of the next general elections.
