Lusaka — Oasis Forum Chairperson Beauty Katebe says the organisation has formally notified the Zambia Police Service of its intention to hold a protest march from Freedom Statue to State House on Independence Avenue.
The march is scheduled for Friday, 28 November 2025, and is
intended to signal public rejection of what the Forum describes as Government’s
“rushed, non-inclusive and election-centred” Bill 7 constitutional reform process.
Katebe disclosed that the notification was delivered
directly to the Inspector General
of Police after the Lusaka
Province Police Commissioner declined to receive it.
She said the protest forms part of a broader series of
actions the Oasis Forum is undertaking to oppose Bill 7. These include a petition before the Constitutional Court,
an open letter to the President,
and the ongoing “Black Friday”
campaign, which encourages the public to honk, wear black ribbons, and
display black car disks as signs of dissent.
In addition, letters urging rejection of the bill have
been sent to all Members of
Parliament, and a public
petition is being circulated for citizens’ signatures.
The Oasis Forum is urging members of the public to
gather in large numbers at Freedom
Statue on Friday for the march to State House.
Earlier Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi warned the protesters that if they will not follow the right procedures to hold the protest they meet the long arm of the law despite their freedom to do that.
