GOVERNMNT COMMENDS TRALARD PROJECTS IN KAWAMBWA DISTRICT
Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama has commended the Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development (TRALARD) projects in Kawambwa district, recognizing its significant contributions to the districts' development.
Speaking during a tour
of TRALARD projects in kawambwa district that are aimed at improving natural
resource management, resilience to climate change and promoting sustainable
livelihoods, Ms. Chinama stated that government acknowledged the positive
impact of TRALARD on the local communities.
She noted that the project had helped to enhance food security in the district by supporting agricultural production, improving access to markets and improving the living standards of the people.
The Permanent Secretary said the support of cooperatives in kawambwa district by TRALARD through livestock production remained key to ensuring that rural communities were not left out in fighting poverty and enhancing food security.
Ms. Chinama further stated that TRALARDs active involvement in various development initiatives such as infrastructure development, embakments, crossing points and irrigation canals was a clear demonstration of governments stance in eradicating poverty among the Zambian people.
She further commended TRALARD on the construction of 11 modern housing units at Muchulila wildlife camp, noting that the gesture was a motivation to the officers who played a crucial role in providing security and conservation efforts for the Lusenga Plain National Park and surrounding areas.
The Permanent Secretary added that the construction of the housing units could not have come at a better time than this, as they were key in enhancing security, provision of comfortable and secure living conditions for officers as well as supporting the effective management of the national park and its resources.
She further expressed appreciation for the projects, highlighting its alignment with governments development priorities and its potential to drive economic growth and poverty reduction in districts where the project was being implemented in Luapula Province.
Mr. Walima said through the project many lives had been transformed coupled with great understanding and awareness by communities in terms of natural resource management, cementing the objective of the project of improving natural resource management by supporting communities through alternative livelihoods.
He stated that it was gratifying how the project was impacting positively on the lives of the people and the massive support from district stakeholders played a key role for the project to achieve its objective in Kawambwa district.
Mr. Walima revealed that plans were underway for government to bring TRALARD 2 which would focus on consolidating all the projects implemented in the first phase, as well as value addition aimed at increasing income levels in the lives of beneficiaries.
He expressed satisfaction on the performance of TRALARD projects in the districts in the province, further urging the private sector to procure farm produce from farmers that were being supported by the project.
Mr. Walima further commended the community in Kawambwa district for accepting the project and tirelessly working hard to better their livelihoods adding that it was impressive to see an increase in the number of farmers that were resilient to the effects of climate change.
He said the construction of a weir in the area had brought joy to the community as they were assured of not being affected by drought that was being caused by climate change.
Mr. Mukonde added that with the community owning a weir, it was going to enable farmers to irrigate their crops leading to increased agricultural productivity and improved food security.
He further added that the weir was going to provide opportunities for small-scale farmers to generate income, improve their livelihoods and reduce poverty as well as improving access to water for irrigation, domestic use and livestock benefiting the community.
Mr. Mukonde commended TRALARD for the life-changing intervention, further stating that the community remained committed to maintaining and utilizing the weir sustainably to ensure its benefits were felt for generations to come.
